A great way to learn pruning by being shown on three different rose types (tea, floribunda, climbing) and then we were let loose with our secateurs on Apuldrum roses. Cripes! Everyone I spoke to was itching to get home to their own roses to practice what we had learned and I pruned mine the next morning, confident that I wasn’t going to do any damage. Superb coffee and sublime cake good company and a great workshop, a morning very well spent. Highly recommended.

The demonstration was accompanied with clear instructions and plenty of humour as the roses were reduced to uniform healthy plants rather than the haphazard collection I have at home.   Many lessons learnt and good professional advice given.   Hot drinks and delicious cakes were gratefully accepted to warm up at the end.     
Before you leave take home some beautiful fresh eggs and spoil yourself with a new rose too.

I have just attended a pruning class at Apuldram Roses and it was well worth it, not only on how to prune roses but picking up so many hints and tips on how to look after roses from planting, pruning, feeding etc.  Nothing was too much trouble for Jonathan and Elizabeth who run the lessons and the farm.  I also bought two roses from the many different varieties they have available.

Appledram's Rose Pruning Masterclass is a Masterclass in itself! Liz and Jonathan's vast knowledge and expertise are imparted in a friendly and non-intimidating manner, enabling participants to learn quickly how to correctly (!) prune all  varieties of roses, including climbers and ramblers. 
The practical side is fun, rather than terrifying, as they guide and encourage individuals to prune a variety of roses, thus providing the confidence for us to go home and correctly prune our own roses. 
Included in the two-hour course are hot drinks (with the most magical hot chocolate) and homemade cakes - made with eggs from an array of Liz's chickens.  Throw in a magnificent nursery of roses, some other plants, several dogs - and a few cockerels - and you have a magical morning.
Highly recommended. Oh, and their roses are the very best in the area... I bought 6 a couple of years ago and they are still thriving, despite my not having pruned them properly! (But now I have no excuse.)

I thoroughly enjoyed this course. I had no understanding of pruning roses when I went, but I do now and I'm pretty good at it. It was much easier to understand and follow than a book as you were actually shown and were able to watch, the roses being pruned by the professionals. You also get to prune your own rose and are shown if it needs a bit more pruning, where to prune etc, until you get it right.
